V. H. Harbor and "Indian style" eel pot about 1886

Handwritten Notes: "Vineyard Haven harbour about 1886 / one of Capt. Josiah Cleveland's eel pots after old Indian style"

One of the Athearns' (now up-island) has one of these (Josiah Cleveland) pots. There is a picture around somewhere (maybe I saw it in the Dukes County Historical Society) that shows Captain Josiah Cleveland at this spot, at a much earlier period, in front of flakes (racks) of drying cod and herring.
