MARTHA'S VINEYARD SCHOOL OF ART,
Arthur R. Freedlander, Vineyard Haven, Mass.

This is thefifth season of the Martha's Vineyard School of Art, conducted by Mr. Arthur R. Freedlander, and it would be difficult to overestimate the benefits it has disposed, not only to students but also to the Island in general and Vineyard Haven in particular. Its presence has caused many to spend the summer on the Island who otherwise would probably never have come here, and a prominent feature of its work - sketching tours to the very numerous points of interest on the Island - has proved a potent factor in making the Island's charms more generally appreciated. The plan of study includes outdoor classes in landscape, marine and figure painting with three criticisms a week; and there is a special course for students in architecture, for the purpose of developing facility in the use of water colors and washes. The fact that Mr. H. L. Tilton has been called upon to execute many important commissions in the line of sanitary plumbing affords the most convincing proof that he may safely be depended upon to do work equal to the best and also to meet all honorable competition in prices. Avery attractive establishment to patronize and one that you may visit many times and still be sure to find something "worth seeing" every time you call is that conducted by Mr. C. M. Vincent and conveniently located on Main Street. The stock is a large, varied and complete one, including stationery of about all kinds and in all standard grades, together with a very attractive showing in the way of choice confectionery, and soda water that is the "real thing" instead of the tasteless compound which is sold as soda water in not a few pretentious places. The post cards alone shown at this store are worth going out of your way to see, for they are not only strictly up-to-date but they are so varied and attractive in style that all tastes can be completely suited from the assortment. The prices rule low and callers are assured prompt and courteous attention. Mr. Vincent also caters to the gentlemen, as he carries the daily and Sunday papers and cigars, tobacco, etc.

Howes will convince even the most incredulous that it is not necessary to bring along a lot of clothing, neckwear, etc., when you come to Vineyard Haven to spend the summer. The average man brings along a lot of superfluous things, thinking he may possibly need them, but as Mr. Howes is prepared to supply practically anything and everything in the line of clothing and furnishings and as be quotes prices in strict accordance with the lowest market rates it is far easier, and not a bt more expensive, to buy what you need of him instead of encumbering yourself with baggage.
