- email@example.com (Carol Milner) Subject:
Gee and Willix ancestry on Martha's Vineyard... I am a descendant of Hannah Gee Hodgkins
whose parents were John Gee born in about 1617 in London, London, England and who married
Hazelponi or Hazelelponi Willix. Her parents were Baltazar Willix and Hannah/Annah. The
story goes that John Gee was killed/died at sea off of Martha's Vineyard on 27 Dec 1669.
Where can I read more about this? And family stories say that Hazelponi's mother Annah was
robbed, murdered and then tossed into the river there. This family had a brutal history in
Martha's Vineyard! I would like to know more about this family . If there is anyone who
can help me or at least point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
After John's death, Hazelponi married Obediah Wood of Ipswich, Mass. I will be eager to
hear from anyone who can help me learn more of my family.... Carol

Hamm) Under the family surname of COTTLE in "History of Martha's Vineyard...."
by Charles E. Banks, a Edmund COTTLE (designated as numer 214 in Banks'history), is stated
as having "among others" a Capt Edmond Cottle as a child. It is the "among
others" that our family's current research is dedicated. Hopefully we can link a
Charles COTTLE (born abt 1810 and married a Mary H. NORTON) to him as a son. It is just
said in our family that Charles was his son, but we have no factual evidence. Any light or
references would me appreciated!

few days since, constantly appeared in the female dress, and was always supposed to be one
of the sex, suddenly threw off that garb, and assumed the habit of a man; and,
sufficiently to demonstrate the reality of this last appearance, is on the point of
marrying a widow woman." The New-London Gazette (New London, Conn.), August 3, 1764.

II am also very interested in finding a descendant of Jirah Luce. He was Maria Allen
Yale's only sibling. He was born on Martha's Vineyard 18 Jan. 1819 and died Healdsburg,

his wife had a daughter, who was also deaf (plus two others) and of course there was Josie
West, George's brother, whose portrait now hangs in the Dukes County Historical Society. I

- email@example.com (Robert Pease) Attempting
to identify parents of Abijah Pease. He is identified as being on Vinalhaven
Island(Me.) about 1820 and thereafter. Abt. 18 years old at that time. Gravestone gives
DOB as 28 Sept. 1802. Background: John Pease of Martha's Vineyard was married four
times. Children from fourth mar. to Mary Norton were- Seba (lost at sea), Havilah, Samuel,
Mary and Francis. Havilah, Samuel and Mary rem. to Vinalhaven Island (Me.) mid 1790s. I
know their children, and Abijah Pease is not one of them. However, Abijah and a Joseph(
abt. two years older) appear to arrive and closely associate with the Peases on
Vinalhaven, the question is whether Abijah (and/or) Joseph are children of a Pease sibling
or other relative, perhaps Fancis Pease, born abt. 1780 (MVineyard)

FOR INTERESTED VINEYARDERS: Both Farmington and Industry Maine were the destinations of
many people from Martha's Vineyard. Some: Butlers, Allens, Manters, Luce, Lambert, Norton,
Daggetts, Cottles - are prominent in the establishment of these two towns, in addition to
some Pease who settle in Wilton, some Smiths who settled in New Sharon. Have Industry VR's
& Farmington VR's in my possession. Will be glad to help, but keep in mind there are
lots of "voids" in these old records.
- RNE@Prodigy.Net (Jane) My
gr-gr-grandfather was Henry Ellis McCollum born on Martha's Vineyard in 1803 and died in
Marston Mills. I am looking for information about his parents: Archibald McCollum (MV) and
his mother Martha Godfrey.
- email@example.com (Kathy Mosley) I am interested
in the history of the JERNEGAN's in Martha's Vineyard. Who was the first Jernegan in
Martha's Vineyard, who were his parents? I would appreciate any information, thank you.
- firstname.lastname@example.org (Mac Williams) I have
done some preliminary research for a friend of mine on the LUCE
(LUSE) family. He is descended from HENRY LUCE who married REMEMBER LITCHFIELD about abt
1699. Any help would be appreciated on the the ancestors of HENRY LUSE.
- email@example.com (Nancy Porter) Does
anyone have any particulars about the ship, "The Snubbett"? Came up the Kennebec
to deliver folks to Hallowell (we think) - folks with ties to the Island.

Looking for info on early Lamberts. Particularly Levi Lambert who married Phebe
Young. Perhaps moved off the Vineyard before marriage.
Also: Does anyone know when and where Eliabeth Eddy Lambert and Husband Jonathan Lambert
died? Where they are buried?
- email@example.com Looking for info on
Fear Hawkes who ma: Thomas Tilton. Hist. of Industry Maine says they moved there circa
1820. Thomas died and Fear was living with one of her sons in Farmington 1860. But can't
find any record of their buriel in either Farmington or Industry. Were their bodies
returned to Martha's Vineyard? Does anyone know anything about either Fear or Thomas'
- DINAMAY@aol.com I am looking for information
regarding Henry Young, schoolmaster at Tisbury, and wife Lydia Ross. This family had
10 children and was on the island from 1770-1793. Henry Young left the Revolutionary War
Service in 1777 to return to Tisbury as schoolmaster. He also was recorded in Town
Records. He left for Heath in about 1795 and was recorded as schoolmaster on a land deed
there. His father was a "Writer and Messenger" in Edinburgh, Scotland. Family
tradition has it that he wrote for the king.
They moved to Franklin Co. Mass and then to Madison New York. I believe
Lydia's father may have been William Ross who bought land 1740 on the Vineyard. Lydia had
a sister Hannah. Lydia's grandmother was Hannah Pease daughter of James Pease. Does anyone
know who Hannah Pease married or who William Ross' family was? Do you know where the
Young\Ross family came from before their arrival in Dukes? Henry was on the ship Centaur
in 1763. Will exchange family data. Diana Hart 2432 East Lynwood Drive, Salt Lake City,
Utah 84109 (I may be discontinuing my E-Mail soon.)
(David R.Rodriguez) Do you, or any older relative or friend, recognize this lady? I
have strong reason to believe that this is my Maternal Grandmother, but I have no definite
factual information to substantiate this. This picture bears the name of R.G. Shute,
Photographer, Edgartown, Mass.. I have been informed that R.G.Shute was an important turn
of the century photographer from Edgartown, so this picture would have to be from the same
time frame. If you have any information regarding this lady, please let me know. I would
be most grateful.
- Bevzbase@aol.com I am having a difficult
time determining the parentage of an Ebenezer Daggett born 1693-96 Aug 8. Records show two
Ebenezers in the same family Father Samuel son of Thomas. My Ebenezer was married to
Hannah Sibley. I have been trying for several months to determine where he belongs. My
original info had him the son of
William Daggett from Saco, Maine. My mothers maiden name was Daggett so you can see that
this is an important line in my genealogy and I don't want to pass down incorrect info. I
would appreciate any help or direction you could offer.
- SLOWE@lonet.ca (Sally Lowe) I am in the process of
researching the Gosnell family which are descendents of Bartholomew Gosnold. Could someone
direct me as to where I can go to find any info on Bartholomew, wife, and each and all
family members would be appreciated. I reside in Canada.
- firstname.lastname@example.org (K.M. Lanoue) I am currently
researching the family history of Sanford Blackinton of North Adams, Massachusetts. He was
a wealthy woolen manufacturer and kept a summer residence on Martha's Vineyard (or
possibly rented one). The probable dates of the family on the Vineyard would be @ 1865 to
1875. Mr. Blackinton died in 1872 but his wife and surviving children continued to visit
the island. If anyone has any information on where their property was located I would
greatly appreciate it. Thank you! K.M. Lanoue, Bennington, VT.
- HOCIN@aol.com ("Rhodehamel") I am looking
for reference to Benjamin Allen in West Tisbury, Volume II, pages 65-67. I will appreciate
any help you can give me.
- email@example.com (Shirley Dunham) The
family I am looking for is: Nathan & Louisa Dunham - I am guessing that Louisa's
madden name was Pease. They are both from Edgartowm (based on death certificate in P-town
for their son Nathan b. 1790 d. 1851). I am estimating that they were both around 1770. -
Also records (and family documents) are showing a name change to 'Donham' Do you have any
information on them? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
- firstname.lastname@example.org (Harold Davis
Hilton) I am researching my ancesor Elijah NORTON, a sea captain, who was born on Martha's
Vineyard Island 16 Feb 1740. I believe his father to be Ichabod NORTON, born in England.
(One of his sons was Burroughs Norton who married Betsey Bullard. We believe Elijah had a
wife in England, as that is where family notes show Burroughs to have been born.) When and
why Ichabod came to New England is unknown. Since Norton had been on the island for so
long, it is possible he is of this family and joined them. Also unknown is the wife of
Elijah, and his date of death and place of burial. Any information will be appreciated.
Return to Dukes County.
