Looking East Down Union Street, Vineyard Haven, in 1898

This photo was taken from the top of Union Street shortly after the 1898 Gale.
The Vineyard Haven Harbor can be seen in the distance. The Newberg, driven through the wharf during "the big blow" is seen in the distance, along with several ocean-going tugs.

The building on the right is the home of Ralph Look Sr.

The building on the extreme left is the Look and Washburn Grocery Store. The sign reads, "Look, Washburn, & Co. Meats & Groceries"

The next building was the shop of George F. Armsby. His sign reads, "Geo. F. Armsby Plumbing & Heating."
