JOSEPH Q. MINGO
1825 - 1912.
HIS WIFE
LYDIA C. MINGO
1837 - 1914.
AT REST

Joseph Mingo (aged 45, Black, Carpenter), appears with Lydia Mingo (aged 30, Black, Keeping House), and their children Samuel G. Mingo and Parthenia Mingo in the 1870 Tisbury census, adjacent to Samuel (76) and Eliza (65) Mingo, and the family of Chas. W. James.

It is likely that Joseph and the elder Samuel were related - perhaps son and father? According to the 1866 record of Samuel's fourth marriage to Eliza N. Jackson, Samuel was born c. 1795-6 in Tiverton, RI, the son of Isaih and Anna Mingo.

Joseph Q. and Samuel Mingo do not appear in the 1860 Tisbury census, but do appear in the 1861 Massachusetts Indian Census for Christiantown. There is also a reference to Joseph Q. Mingo of Gay Head in a November 1861 issue of the Vineyard Gazette.

Joseph Q. Mingo appears in the 1907 directory of West Tisbury as a Christiantown farmer.

Joseph Mingo's death notice can be found in the 10 Apr 1913 issue of the Vineyard Gazette.
