Susanna Sumner was the daughter of Edgartown gentleman John Sumner and his wife Susanna Stevens. John was graduated from Harvard College in 1723 as a minister, and about 1738 moved his family to the Vineyard where he served as Associate Justice of the County Court and later as County Treasurer.
