BENJAMIN SUMNER SON TO Mr. JOHN & Mrs. JEDIDAH SUMNER; DIED NOVr. Ye 7th 1739: AGED 3 MONTHS Benjamin Sumner was the son of Edgartown gentleman John Sumner and his second wife Jedidah Smith. John was graduated from Harvard College in 1723 as a minister, and about 1738 moved his family to the Vineyard where he served as Associate Justice of the County Court and later as County Treasurer.
