THE LAMBERT FAMILY

Compiled by Dr. Charles Banks, c. 1925.
Transcribed and prepared for the web by C. Baer and Karen Flanders Eddy, 1999.

3. JONATHAN LAMBERT, son of Joshua2 and Abigail (Linnell) Lambert, and grandson of Thomas1 and Joyce Lambert, was b. 28 Apr. 1657 in Barnstable, Mass. and came to T. abt. 1692 with his wife, ELIZABETH EDDY (22) to whom he was m. 11 Dec. 1683, and bringing four of his elder children. A sketch of him is to be found in Vol. II, Annals of W. T., p. 53, which comprises all that is known of his life. He followed the occupation of carpenter, and d. 1738. His will 23 Mch. 1736-7 was pro. 3 Oct. 1738. This name is found in early records as Lombard, Lumbard, Lumbert and other similar variations, and from investigations made by the author it is probable that this family originated in county Somerset, England. The name of Barnard Lumberd, one of the emigrants, is found in that county and it is believed that further research would establish connection between New England and the home of the emigrant.
