A history of the factory that burned the town down in 1883, on the site of Compass Bank. Also, a history of the old Masonic Hall, Nye's Paint Shop, Jenkins' Paint Shop, and some of the other early buildings on the site of the modern bank.

Histories of the houses on the West side of Main street between Drummer Lane and the old DAR building. Includes the history of what is probably the most-moved building in Vineyard Haven - Manter's Shoe Store.
August 2, 2002 The North End Bakery, Main Street, Vineyard Haven
A history of the building and property now occupied by the M.V. Bagel Authority and Le Grenier. It was once the grocery of Bodfish & Call, which later merged with other groceries to become S.B.S. It was also the telegraph office, Alfred Averill's bakery, Humphreys' "Vineyard Food Shop", Morrice the Florist, Western Auto, and a number of other stores.

Do you know that little house, set back between Cronig's Real Estate and the French restaurant, which currently is occupied by The Gypsy's Suitcase? Here's a history of that little building, as well as Capt. Warren Luce's grocery, which stood at this location before the great fire.

The Naushon Daily Agitator
I found these mysterious, hand-drawn, satirical "newspapers", all evidently drawn in September 1936 by and for the crewmen of the steamer Naushon. Who was the editor? Can you identify any of the people mentioned? Does anyone have any other issues?

Mar. 30, 2002 A History of The Eagleston Block
Remember the Thrift Shop when it was on Main Street, Vineyard Haven? It was formerly known as the Eagleston Block, named after dry goods merchant A. P. Eagleston who built it in 1891. It has also been the US Weather Bureau Office, the Telegraph Exchange, the Telephone Exchange, the Customs Office, Luce Brothers' store (aka Dean S. Luce & Co.), several dentists' offices, Godfrey's clothing, Josiah Bodfish's clothing, Mrs. A. T. Tilton's dry goods store, Call's China Shop and Toy Store, the A&P grocery store, Oliver's Paper Store, and Haines' Gift Shop. Lots of history, photos, and some spectacular advertisements.

Remember the Vineyard Dry Goods Store on Main Street, Vineyard Haven? The original part - the northern building - has been Mrs. A. T. Tilton's dry goods store, Ernest Tilton's hardware store, Edward Cottle's hardware store, W. W. Douglas' hardware store, and before the fire had been the location of Vineyard Haven's first telephone.
